Obion County officials said the conclusion of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation case revealed additional officers were question in the case which resulted in a Union City police officer being charged with filing a false report. “Right now I have three other officers that are relieved from duty,” said Union City Police Chief Joe Garner. Chief Garner said the conclusion of the TBI case revealed three of his officers had been questioned. The TBI’s case concluded Officer Mike Hogg filed a false insurance claim on a stolen four-wheeler. “This is something that blew our minds… that an officer would do this,” said Chief Garner. Chief Garner would not release the name of the three officers relieved of duty. “It is connected and our concerns are their knowledge and times of knowledge and actions that may or may not have been taken,” said Chief Garner. Officials said the conclusion of the TBI investigation also revealed Obion County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Dave Davis was also questioned by TBI agents. Obion County Sheriff Sherry Vastbinder said Davis was suspended pending an internal investigation, but resigned Tuesday. He said Davis is a 22-year law enforcement officer who worked for the Union City Police Department for the majority of his career. He said, while working for the Union City Police Department, Davis worked on the same shift as the officers who were relieved of duty. 7 Eyewitness News requested the names of the officers who were relieved of duty, but were told by the city manager of Union City the request may take up to seven days to process. Chief Garner said he expects his internal investigation to be completed by next week.
