Myths About Breathalyzers
We have all heard the myths with breathalyzer tests and if there is a way to trick it if you are caught in a situation. As New Year’s Eve approaches, many may be tempted to try out these tricks. Deputy Bryan Chandler said he has heard it all. From putting a penny in your mouth, mints, Reese’s Pieces, and even tobacco. Placing one of these objects in your mouth before blowing in a breathalyzer machine is said to cover the smell of alcohol on your breath, and fool the machine. Deputy Bryan Chandler said none of these tricks work. The alcohol smell on your breath will overpower anything you put in your mouth. Authorities say you can not fool the machine, bottom line. Attempting these tricks could prolong your stay at the jail. Deputy Chandler said when an individual is brought back to the sheriff’s department, they do a 21-minute observation period, making sure the person does not put any objects in their mouth or throw-up. This time is used to rid the residual alcohol on the mouth, for a better breathalyzer test result. Deputy Chandler said you will get caught if you try one of these tricks, and go to jail.
