Obion County High School Gets Agriculture Grant
Farming is a big business in West Tennessee and a new program was unveiled in Obion County to help insure there are farmers in the future. State and Federal agriculture leaders visited Obion Central High School in Troy, Thursday afternoon. The school received $200,000 in state and federal grants to help build the Obion County Community Agricultural Learning Center, which includes a new greenhouse for students and will soon include a cattle born on the campus. “If they choose to go to the college path they can take what they learned here and apply that in their college career,” said Sarah Baker, an agriculture teacher. Along with traditional farming, students will learn things like greenhouse management, turf and grass management and landscaping. The mayor told 7 Eyewitness News, farmers make up 30 percent of Obion County’s income.
