Martin To Build Renewable Energy Plant
The City of Martin is going green in a whole new way. It’s not just recycling, but using that to create an energy source. It’s a process that will potentially create jobs and lower electric bills at absolutely no cost to taxpayers. Martin Mayor Randy Brundige said a new renewable energy source will be a way to use materials that go in the landfill that have no purpose but taking up space. The mayor said the brush or waste will be picked up and crushed. It will then go though what’s called a gasification process where it’s converted into a combustible pure carbon gas that will produce electricity. That power will be put back on the electric line for residents to use. “We have entered into an agreement with CSA Energy Corporation. We have to be on the grid by March 15, if we want to keep our permits,” said Mayor Brundige. The mayor said the city had been working with this private company out of Hickman, KY for three years. And that this is something that is profitable to the city with no cost. This is done because CSA will be selling on the city’s permits, the mayor said this is like a trial period for the company to prove this process works. “I think it’s an amazing project and it’s a good use of old storage and it doesn’t cost anything but it makes something and a potential job is always wonderful,” said Aaron White of Martin. The machine, supplies and offices will be houses in Martin’s old National Armory Guard, that is just being used for storage right now. The mayor said this renewable energy source could even lower Martin residents’ electric bill.
