Two sisters on a unique mission to help others are spending the night in Jackson as they make their way to Texas on horseback. Brandy and Ashley Nelsey left their hometown of West Branch, Michigan on horseback, September 11 on a mission to ride to Houston, Texas and back by May 15. Their goal is to raise $15,000 to plant three water wells in Haiti as part of the “Horseback for Haiti” charity. “The kids, like, they go out and they spend four to six hours a day right now trying to find water for their families and what they find comes out of the drainage ditch,” said Brandy Nelsey of Horseback for Haiti. “The water down there is so bad it looks like coffee with creamer in it and so a water well, a fresh water well is going to give 2,000 fresh water daily, said sister Brandy Nelsey So far, the duo has raised about half their goal. Wednesday night, the sisters, their five horses and dog camped outside North Jackson Baptist Church.
