Hardeman Co. Superintendent Announces Retirement
The Director of Schools in Hardeman County has announced this will be his final year at the helm of the school district. Dr. Donald Hopper’s retirement announcement came as a surprise to many of those at last week’s school board meeting. His announcement came just as the board planned to discuss whether to renew his contract, which expires in June. Some say because of his leadership the Hardeman County School system now serves as a model for improving scores in reading and math. “He’s constantly looking for ways to improve education in Hardeman County,” said Anne Ingle with the Hardeman Co. School District. “I think he feels that he has been satisfactory in doing that.” Dr. Hopper has been with the system for 21 years and has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and program specialist, which is the position he held before his first retirement in 2004. Dr. Hopper’s final day will be June 30.
