Construction Delays Delaying Jobs
Mother Nature has not been a fan of the McDonald’s and Flash Market currently under construction off Highway 412 in Bells. Major delays has the Bells Mayor waiting for the revenue to start rolling in. The project that started in the fall was supposed to be completed at the end of this month. Now the completion date will be closer to April. “When it rains it’s just hard to get a vehicle in here without getting stuck and of course the dirt work you can’t do anything until the ground dry’s up, ” said Heath Spencer, job superintendent. According to the National Weather Service during the last six weeks of 2011 the Bells area received 15 inches of rain and two inches of snow. , “We are just riding it out. We would be glad to get it over whenever it does, ” said Bells Mayor Harold Craig, The delay also hurts the 65 people that will work at McDonald’s and Flash Market. Paychecks that are needed. “If I was unemployed I would be anxious to you know go to work so I know they are ready,” Craig said. The delayed opening hurts sales tax, property tax, gas tax and beer tax from the city and county. “We are pushing everybody to get done and get everything open so the community can have access to the new facility” said Spencer. “We are ready, it’s been long drawn-out,” Craig said.
