Carson-Newman Cuts Programs, Staff

Carson-Newman College administrators say they are eliminating three study areas and have cut cabinet posts and other jobs.

A notice that university President Randall O’Brien sent to the campus community last week stated the athletic training, computer information systems and French programs are being ended by the Baptist-affiliated private college in Jefferson City, according to The Knoxville News-Sentinel

University spokesman Parker Leake declined comment on what he called “ongoing personnel matters.”

Carson-Newman has eliminated at least four top administrative posts and three other jobs, according to the newspaper.

The college has been struggling financially in recent years, but received full accreditation late last year after being on a watch list for a year.
