Mother nature can be a unpredictable force and one Henderson County family learned that the hard way after last night’s storm system passed through. Scottie Hopper’s farm just off Highway 22 South took the hardest hit when their 60′ x 55′ barn was completely knocked down. The Hopper family said they lost a few animals during the storm and many of their chicken coops were completely turned over. Hopper said he was ready to go to sleep just before the storm became violent since there were no tornado warnings issued for Henderson County. “We didn’t think it was too bad till we heard Mike McEvoy talking about the storm coming toward Lexington up 412 and my wife said you better get up. So I got us out of the bed and got my shoes on and we headed across the street and about 15 minutes everything just blew away,” Hopper said. Hopper says he has friends and family helping him with the clean up and expects his insurance to cover the damage.
