Giraffe Joins Nashville Zoo
The Nashville Zoo has welcomed Layla, an 18-month-old reticulated giraffe described as spunky and curious.
Layla, who came from the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas, is 9 feet tall and weighs more than 590 pounds. She becomes the third giraffe at the zoo.
Layla will be on exhibit during sunny days when temperatures remain above 50 degrees.
Reticulated giraffes, native of eastern Africa, are known for their distinctive skin pattern of bright orange spots separated by cream lines. It’s estimated that fewer than 5,000 remain in the wild.
