Planners Give Update on Downtown Construction
If you have driven along North Highland in downtown Jackson lately, it is hard to miss the massive construction project underway. Progress is evident on the Lift Center, which is an anchor of the new City Walk area of downtown. The Wellness Center is part of the 17 acre project that is set to include about 25 single family homes, 150 apartments and 17,000 square feet of retail space. Project leaders said the Wellness Center is vital in promoting a healthy community that can help build a strong economy. “We are about 40 percent complete on our steel, all three of our pools are dug and it is coming along every day,” said Dr. Lisa Piercy, vice president of West Tennessee Health Care. “We have had a lot of community support particularly from old time Jacksonians that would look for something good to happen to one of the most historic areas in our city,” said developer Hal Crocker. The Lift Center is set to be complete in January of next year.
