Five days since a deadly shooting on the campus of Lane College and still no arrest. Police said their hands are tied because witnesses are not saying anything. Justin Clark, 21, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head last Wednesday. He died the following morning. Investigators said Clark was involved in a fist fight with another man right before the shooting. However, they said they are not sure of the man’s identity and if he was the one who started firing into a large crowd that had gathered around them. “We’ve been told anywhere between dozens to a hundred, hundred and fifty people maybe even more than that were out that night when the shooting happened, ” said Capt. Mike Holt of the Jackson Police Department. “We need those individuals that saw what happened that night, that know about what happened that night to stand up, do the right thing, and come help us. It is frustrating and we’ve run into this from time to time where that happens, maybe people all assume somebody else has come forward and that’s part of why I want to get back out there and remind people that we still need you, if you were a witness we still need you,” said Holt. Though Clark was not a Lane College student, officers said some of the witnesses were. Many students have asked the school administration to do more to increase safety on campus. They peacefully demonstrated the day after the shooting. Lane has not publicly said what, if any changes it will make. If you have any information that could help investigators, call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers (731) 424-8477.
