Prosecutor Resigns After DUI Arrest

The city prosecutor for Germantown has resigned after being arrested on a DUI charge.

Joe Lee Wyatt stepped down Wednesday after being arrested the night before, according to The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/zdUNC0 ).

Wyatt had served as the senior city prosecutor for 20 years. He is 58 years old.

He was jailed overnight Tuesday after being arrested by Memphis Police on Interstate 55. A police affidavit showed Wyatt was charged with reckless driving, public intoxication, driving under the influence and possession of a handgun.

He was stopped about a mile from where a witness reported his car struck a pole and drove away.

Police found Wyatt on an entrance ramp to the interstate, standing outside his car. He said he had been run off the road.
