Mississippi Forms Pregnancy Task Force

Gov. Phil Bryant has formed a task force to reduce the number of teen pregnancies and births in Mississippi.

State health and human services agencies are working with the school systems, community, faith based and private organizations to create the teen pregnancy prevention task force.

The mission includes ensuring access to teen friendly health care, increasing job opportunities for teens, helping the family unit make health choices along with educating and promoting social wellness among youth and families.

Bryant says children born to teens have an unfair disadvantage.

The plan is to reduce the number of pregnancies, ages 8 through 19 by 15 percent by 2017.
