Storms Leave Damage In Mississippi

Authorities say severe weather may be to blame for one death, scattered home damage and up to 5 inches of rain in Mississippi.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says Wednesday’s death in Lexington was caused by a tree falling on a home.

National Weather Service meteorologist Marc McAllister says crews will go to Warren and Rankin counties Thursday to determine if tornados hit there. He says some places got 5 inches of rain and more is forecast for Thursday, especially east Mississippi.

There were reports of damage in Franklin, Holmes, Pike, Rankin and Warren counties and several flooded homes in Hancock County.

A Pike County resident tells the Enterprise-Journal newspaper that her horse was injured by downed power lines, but survived despite earlier reports that it had died.
