Ky. to get $9 Million Federal Grant for Bridge
PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) – The U.S. Department of Transportation is giving Kentucky a $9 million grant to replace a span of the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake. U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, R-Ky., announced the grant Wednesday, saying the funds would come from the Emergency Relief Program of the Federal Highway Administration. The span, which carried traffic along U.S. 68 into and from Land Between the Lakes, collapsed Jan. 26 after being struck by a cargo ship. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd told The Paducah Sun the grant would allow state funds allocated for the bridge repair to be used for other projects. Todd said the date for the bridge to reopen remains May 27.
