People Dumping Pets On Public Lands

A 10-foot albino python found slithering through Land Between the Lakes is the latest evidence of a recurring pet abandonment problem on public lands.

The reptile was taken to an animal rescue center on Wednesday.

The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/Hm8B8f ) quoted LBL spokeswoman Nicole Hawk, who said dogs, cats, ponies and goats have also been dumped at the 180,000-acre national recreation area that lies between the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Hawk said disposing of pets at LBL is a danger to wildlife there and could be a threat to the many visitors to the reserve.
