Chipping of the Green Planned in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – Now that Christmas is over, many Jackson residents have leftover Christmas trees, and city officials want them to be recycled. That is why Keep Jackson Beautiful is sponsoring “Chipping of the Green” for the 30th straight year. Residents can drop off their Christmas trees anytime at two locations – one at 187 Stonebrook Place until January 11, and at 720 South Highland Avenue until January 12. City officials said it is more environmentally friendly. “We try to pick them up on the curb too, but with Waste Management going around, they’ll pick them up, and then they go to the landfill,” said Jodi Jacobs, Keep Jackson Beautiful Coordinator. “With dropping them off, they’re guaranteed to be chipped and recycled.” The city said they will “chip up” the trees on January 12 from 9-11 a.m. at the South Highland Avenue location.
