Derby Party Benefits Children’s Hippotherapy Program

It was a sea of colorful, decorative derby hats in downtown Jackson’s Miss Ollie’s Piano Bar, and it was for a great cause. Saturday, the Therapy and Learning Center hosted a derby party to benefit children who use hippotherapy treatment. Hippotherapy uses the movement of a horse as treatment strategy in physical, occupational, and speech language therapy. Participants had a chance to enjoy customary derby cuisine while sporting their unique hats. More than one hundred people showed and dozens participated in the hat parade. Therapy-E-Learning Center’s Beth Koffman, “It’s a great event. Everybody has fun. It’s something everybody gets into and enjoys picking a horse. But at the end of the day, we know we raised money to help the kids and that is the best part.” Organizers said they have raised more than $4,000.
