Man Beaten To Death In Hardin County
Savannah police are investigating the weekend murder of a man beaten to death inside his own home. Chief Donald Derr said they have not worked a murder case in one-and-a-half years, and most of the calls they get from this neighborhood are for speeders. It was shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, Max Walker went to Thomas Dickson’s house to bring him dinner like he often does, but something did not seem right. “I had been over twice that morning, and his vehicle was still there, and he didn’t answer the phone, and that’s the first time since we had gotten reacquainted,” Walker said. He opened the front door to Dickson’s home, and immediately dialed 911. “What we know right now from seeing the body, is there’s injuries to the head. Pretty much indicative of blunt force trauma,” Derr said. Chief Derr still could not give 7 Eyewitness News much information, such as what weapon they recovered, if they had any suspects, or if the murder was random. All he said was that they have “developed several leads.” Neighbors said their friend’s murder is a tragedy. “None of the neighbors, or none of us here, can imagine anything like that happening in this neighborhood, most especially as brutal as it was,” said neighbor Gary Wilson. “Don’t know why anyone would want to harm Doodle ’cause he never harmed anybody else.” Investigators said they are still waiting on results from the medical examiner’s office and the TBI crime lab.
