The City of Jackson’s public nuisance case-load against three area night clubs has gotten a little lighter. Tuesday, the owners of Taboo entered a best interest plea, which is basically a guilty plea to the charge. Club owners Thomas and Shelby Wheat also agreed to shut down Taboo immediately and have agreed to never open another establishment of this kind in the location on Broadview Drive in north Jackson. The city was prepared to present police reports for 67 different criminal incidents that they believed negatively impacted the neighborhood. The crimes ranged from drugs to kidnapping got 13 reports for underage drinking. “With the proof that we were developing on underage people being allowed in to drink, on the general condition of the parking lot, we had businesses next to it talking about what a mess it was after a big Saturday night,” said Lewis Cobb, attorney for the City of Jackson. “We felt like we had an overwhelming case.” The city still has action pending against the owner of the building where Taboo was located. The city is also working on public nuisance cases against Desperados and The Mix Factory.
