This fall, Crockett County residents and anyone wishing to get a Jackson State Community College education can attend classes in Bells right off of Highway 412. “Much easier on people, no need to travel to Jackson if you can get your credits right here in Crockett County. It saves them a lot of time and money, ” said Crockett County Mayor Gary Reasons. Classes will be in session Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will be four classes offered, U.S. History, Speech, Ethics and Computer Applications. “This will be area wide not just for Crockett County. We have had an industry meeting with personnel from Gibson County as well as Crockett County personnel and industry and they have requested one of the courses was professional ethics,” said Crockett County Higher Education Facility Director Catherine Via. Jackson State Community College and Crockett County began working on this deal back in the spring of 2011. “Of course any time you can have people come to the county that’s good for Crockett County because they eat and spend some money here in Crockett County and that’s good,” Reasons said. This will be the first college courses for adults offered at the Higher Education Center. The building is owned by the county. Plans are already in the works for more college opportunities in Bells. “We would like to extend this and have the University of Memphis involved and the University of Tennessee at Martin and those options will be worked out as time goes by,” Via said.
