Famous Pilot Dies at 102

Legendary pilot Evelyn Bryan Johnson, known as “Mama Bird,” has died. She was 102. Its reported that she died on Thursday. Johnson was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio, in 2007. She is said to have logged more flight hours, trained more pilots and given more Federal Aviation Administration exams than any other pilot on the planet. When she was inducted into the Hall of Fame, she had been flying for fifty-five years and had spent the equivalent of seven years in flight. Johnson was also one of the first female helicopter pilots. She was a native of Corbin, Ky., and a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan. Funeral arrangements were expected to be finalized Friday.
