Fallen Officers Remembered at Memorial Service
Tennessee officers killed in the line of duty were remembered, Tuesday as part of National Law Enforcement Memorial Day. Hundreds gathered outside of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department for the somber ceremony. Among them was the widow of slain Henderson Police Captain Dennis Cagle, who was shot during a robbery call in December 2009. In all, 16 fallen police officers deputies and state troopers were remembered. “You’re going out to do a job that doesn’t pay a whole lot of money and that you might not come home to see your own family that evening, it’s significant and I think it’s deserving of the memory and the honor of those that have actually paid that price,” said Deputy Chief Barry Michael of the Jackson Police Department. Tuesday’s ceremony concluded with Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris proclaiming it, “National Law Enforcement Memorial Day.”
