Events This Weekend Bringing Tourists to Jackson
The fields of the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex will play host to more than 1,000 teams in the next three days. “We have 110 teams from seven states coming in for both our boys and girls tournaments this weekend,” said Rickey Yates, Director of Operations at West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex. Families from across Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri will contribute to the Jackson economy. “We expect to have a full house here we’re working toward a shuttle that will be going to park of Pringles parking lot to get our overflow of parking. It’s a tremendous economic impact to our city this weekend,” said Yates. Hotel managers are making preparations for the weekend as well. “We are booked for the entire weekend of course this is a huge event for the city,” said sales manager, Tracy Sykes. It was not just baseball, but her beloved pets that has brought Joyce Leonard all the way from Alabama to Jackson. Her dogs are among thousands participating in this weekend’s American Kennel Club competition, during which she will definitely contribute to the local economy. “Mostly what I’ve had is just a van to take all my dogs and usually I’ll stay in a motel room,” said Joyce Leonard. If you’d like to attend the dog show or the games here at the Sportsplex…tickets for each are $5.
