The U.S. Postal Service has decided to move forward with its modified plan to consolidate its network of more nearly 500 mail processing locations in phases. Jackson’s mail processing center is on the list to be consolidated and one of hundreds to be consolidated by February 2013. The Postal Service will begin consolidation this summer, which mostly involves transferring mail-processing operations from smaller to larger facilities. A second and final consolidation phase is scheduled to begin in February 2014. The Postal Service expects consolidation to generate $2 billion in annual cost reductions and lead to reducing up to 28,000 employees.
