MS City gets Thermal Cameras
The Hattiesburg Fire Department has received fourteen thermal-imaging cameras that not only will aid firefighters in locating people inside burning structures, but also in identifying hot spots otherwise hidden in walls or ceilings. Fire Chief David Webster says the new additions will give firefighters twenty thermal units for use at its stations across the city. To purchase the thermal cameras, the city was awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant, funded through the United States Department of Homeland Security. The federal grant will cover ninety percent of the $88,500 purchase, meaning Hattiesburg will pay about $9,000.
