Civil Suit Against Indicted Sheriff Delayed
A civil suit against a southern Kentucky sheriff has been delayed while a related criminal case plays out. U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Brent Brennenstuhl on Thursday ordered all proceedings in the civil case against Barren County Sheriff Christopher Brian Eaton and four others stopped. A federal grand jury charged Eaton and three others with civil rights violations stemming from the Feb. 24, 2010 arrest of Billy R. Stinnett in Glasgow. Stinnett also sued the sheriff and several deputies over the alleged attack. The indictment states that deputies arrested Stinnett at Calvary Baptist Church in Glasgow, handcuffed him and proceeded to beat the man until taking him in to custody. Brennenstuhl ruled that there will be no harm to the civil case if it is delayed.
