Residents honored more than four thousand fallen soldiers in West Tennessee Monday, at Shiloh National Military Cemetery. The musket salute is one tradition participant Clara Davis said she is very familiar with on Memorial Day. She comes every year to honor her lost son, Private Larry L. Myrick, who is buried in Shiloh’s National Military Park. “He fought proud, he stood proud,” said Kathy Crotts, Myrick’s sister. Family members said Myrick served during the Vietnam War, but spent most of his time in Guatemala. “He could have been a private eye, he could have been anything. He was just so outgoing, he loved people and loved to have fun,” said Crotts. Myrick was buried in Shiloh Cemetery in 1977, although he did not die from injuries suffered in combat. Residents honored his service with a special memorial wreath. “Oh it’s beautiful,” said Clara Davis, Myrick’s mother. It was complete with an exhibit filled with memorabilia he collected. “It just brought up a bunch of memories,” Crotts said. Volunteers and living historians also presented exhibits that featured a timeline of American military history.
