Residents in McNairy County Clean Up Park

Stacey Thompson is on a mission to change the way people think about Eastview Park in McNairy County. Thompson and a group of volunteers have spent the last week sprucing up the park with paint and new equipment. “The playground equipment was the first thing they wanted to do. So we started painting that and freshen it up,” said Thompson. Thompson went to city aldermen and asked for help and they came through by supplying paint, though it has been up to volunteers to do the work. The community has also been battling vandalism. Vandals have been cutting through the fence in order to get basketballs stored inside the court. “We have had some vandalism whether teen, young adults, but we have a thing instead of having a neighborhood watch we’ll have a ‘park watch’,” said Thompson. Thompson said the Eastview Park is the only park in the county that has not been fixed up. “We feel like our park deserves to be fixed up just like everybody else. We don’t want to be better than anyone else’s park we just want a good park of our own,” said Thompson. The city of Eastview is planning to apply for a grant to get more playground equipment.
