Savannah Police Investigate Several Burglaries

There has been a string of destructive break-ins and vandalisms at five different West Tennessee businesses, Monday night. One of the victims said this was the third time she has been hit in recent months. The owner of Urban Unique Fashions in Savannah believes she has been personally targeted, but police said last night’s string of crimes proves she may not be the only target. The door to Sue Jackson’s business had to stay closed on Tuesday. “When we got in here you could smell the gas and there was beer bottles and bricks where they had broken in here,” said Jackson. Sometime Monday night, Savannah police said five businesses were broken into and vandalized. “The register was laying there scattered on the floor and we looked in the drawer where the money was kept and it was gone,” said Savannah Diner owner, Patricia Crotts. Urban Unique Fashions, Savannah Diner, Southgate Cinema, Max’s Barber Shop, and Savannah Machine Shop were all hit around the same time. Three out of the four businesses were burglarized on Florence Road, which leads investigators to believe they could all be connected. According to police, between the five businesses the suspects got away with more than $1,100, cash register, laptop, 10 pairs of jeans, and 10 Red Bull drinks from the theatre. Jackson said she believes her clothing store was the main target and got the worst damage. “They came in here and we don’t have much to get but a little taste of change and a computer so they take gasoline and splatter it all over the clothes.” Police said beer bottles stuffed with gasoline soaked rags were lite on fire and were thrown through the window of the Urban Unique Fashion store and gasoline was poured all over a large TV. The owner of the Savannah Diner believes the people responsible hit her after doing their homework. “Nothing else was touched but the cash register and the window that was broke into and my desk drawers so it was someone who was watching close if they were watching,” added Crotts. Investigators added that none of the five businesses had an alarm system or security cameras, although most business owners said after this, they will now add more security to their property.
