Clerk Fires Daughter for Missing Funds
An ongoing audit has found public funds are missing from the Martin County Clerk’s Office. County Clerk Carol Sue Mills says she has fired her daughters, saying it appears they are responsible. Neither of the women are charged. Mills has been the county clerk for 23 years and said her daughters have been with her from the start. Mills said it isn’t yet clear how the money was taken, nor is there a final figure. However, she said it appears about $20,000 isn’t accounted for. The audit is expected to take a couple of more weeks and an investigation will follow.
