False Alarm Ordinance Enforcement

JACKSON, Tenn. – False Alarm Ordinance Enforcement: *All alarm users must fill out an application form to obtain a required alarm permit from the city of Jackson. There is no fee to register. The form, available online and at City Hall, will ask users to provide information and contact numbers essential for proper police and fire response. *There will be a grace period of six months following the passage of the ordinance, after which a $25 fine could be assessed for failure to register an alarm system. *The alarm user or a representative must respond to the alarm system’s location within 30 minutes to deactivate an alarm system or provide other requested assistance if notified by the Jackson Police Department of Jackson Fire Department. *After two false alarms, a fine of $25 each may be assessed for a third and subsequent false alarm within a permit year. In addition, the city may also assess the cost of each response to a false alarm. *For the third false alarm, in lieu of paying the fine, an alarm user may attend an “Alarm User Awareness Class,” which will point out problems created by false alarms and instruct users how to help reduce false alarms. *Penalties and other enforcement decisions made under the ordinance may be appealed in writing. *Funds derived from false alarm penalties will be used to defray expenses necessary to enforce the ordinance.
