Woman Charged in Fatal Hit and Run
A Dyersburg woman is behind bars, after authorities say she ran over a Ridgely man with her vehicle, leaving him to die. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Jodie Henson, 43, is now charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident where someone was hurt. Investigators say Henson was behind the wheel around two Wednesday morning, when she hit Ronnie Gardner, 50, off Hoecake Road in Lake County. Brittany Miller, a resident, says, “The scene was really brutal, people couldn’t recognize who he was.” Orange paint and tire tracks are now the only visible details, outlining the murder of Gardner. According to the THP, Henson ran over Gardner with her Jeep Grand Cherokee, and neighbors say by the looks of the crime scene, it was more than just once. John French, a resident, adds, “If you hit somebody on the road, that is one thing, that’s bad, but to go back and do it multiple time like that. I wonder how somebody could be that heartless.” Miller, says, “I’m only 20 and I can’t understand why somebody would run somebody over.” Neighbors say the two were out partying in the early morning hours when it happened, however the TBI, nor the THP could confirm exactly how and why Gardner was hit. Now, Henson is charged with a felony count of vehicular homicide and a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of the accident with injury. French, adds, “Everybody is just shocked about it.” And even more shocked, residents, say because this is the second murder investigation Lake County has seen in less than two weeks. Henson remains jailed in Lake County. Her first court date and bond amount has not been released.
