Gibson Co. Teacher Arraigned on Rape Charges
A suspended Gibson County High School teacher made her first appearance in court Tuesday morning on two charges of rape. Bethany Dyer, 36, appeared before a judge in Trenton where she was officially charged with aggravated statutory rape and statutory rape by an authority figure. Dyer is accused of raping a 17-year-old male student. While in court, Dyer did not speak. Instead her attorney spoke for her and spoke to ABC 7 Eyewitness News after leaving the courtroom about what happens from here. “It’s going to be prepared just like any other case. We go through the process, there’s nothing different, but like I said, you’ve heard all I am going to say today, ” said Neil Thompson, Bethany Dyer’s attorney. Dyer remains free on bond and returns to court on May 10. School administrators said Dyer has been suspended without pay while the investigation continues.
