A nearly $100,000 grant announced Tuesday will soon help local high school students get hands on experience while helping area small businesses get help expanding their companies. The funds, awarded to Jackson State Community College by the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, will be used to partner the students with businesses to work on their website development and social media like Facebook and Twitter. Organizers believe the program will help small business owners compete, while allowing students to gain knowledge of how a business operates. “A lot of them just don’t realize that social media plays a huge part in how we shop today and these kids will show them, how to do it , I mean you know, they shop online for everything,” said Joel Newman, grant administrator, with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center. Counties participating in the program include, Haywood, Chester, Decatur, Hardeman, Hardin, Hardeman Hardin, Henderson, McNairy and Madison.
