Paris City Commissioner Neil Buettner found himself in trouble after officers say he was caught snooping in the home he once shared with his now ex-wife. On Saturday, investigators said he was caught on camera trespassing through the home with a flashlight. Officers set up hidden surveillance cameras days before at the home. “No one is above the law,” said Paris resident Robert Adams Buettner has served the city since 2008. His current term as commissioner does not end until December of next year. “It isn’t wrong for him to be elected, but it’s wrong for him to commit a crime,” said Adams. Investigators charged Buettner with aggravated burglary and stalking in connection with the break in. On Tuesday morning, he faced a Henry county judge, but the case was continued. However, the county clerk could not say why. City Manager Carl Holder said he has never dealt with a situation like this before. He says it is now up to the commission to decide what comes next for Buettner. Many in the community hopes that means justice will be served. Buettner will face the judge again on June 23. Investigators said he could face jail time. The city manager said the commission is waiting for the case to go through the court system before making a decision as to whether Buettner can continue to hold office.
