Ripley Police Chief Resigns
Ripley Police Chief Landis Garrison has been under investigation since late January, after complaints were filed against him. However, that ended Monday when he formally resigned. According to Ripley City Attorney Michael Hill, Ripley’s Board of Alderman was scheduled to hear from witnesses who filed complaints against Garrison in a hearing set for Monday morning. However, that never happened. “Prior to that hearing, through his attorney, we discussed his resigning as opposed to having a hearing,” said Hill. Hill said Garrison asked for three additional months of pay and benefits, which the board voted to approve. However, Garrison’s departure has some residents scratching their heads. “Matter of fact he was keeping everything straight up there,” said Ripley resident Tyron Muex. Although city officials nor Garrison have ever opened up about the accusations against him, according to some Garrison was never at the police department and that is what started the complaints. However, Hill said this is a new start for everyone involved. “Part of what we did is agree to put this in the past for the city and for the chief and for they city to move forward and for the chief to move forward,” Hill said. Assistant Chief Jerry Temple has been acting as interim chief since January. It is not clear when city officials will discuss hiring a new chief.
