Shutdown Could Halt Shiloh Anniversary Celebration
If the federal government actually shuts down because a new budget is not passed, thousands of people’s weekend plans in West Tennessee will come to a screeching halt. This weekend marks the 149th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh. Two hundred reenactors are scheduled to perform all day Saturday and Sunday with up to 14,000 visitors expected over the two days. As of late Friday, park rangers at Shiloh National Military Park said everything will go on as scheduled. However, if a budget is not passed all national parks must shut down as of 12:01 a.m. Saturday. Park rangers will only be retroactively paid for the furloughed time, if Congress agrees to do so. Stay tuned to Good Morning West Tennessee – Saturday, which begins at 6:00 a.m., for the latest updates.
