Brownsville Expands Utilities Along Interstate 40

Brownsville leaders say they are now working to bring city water and sewer across Interstate 40 at Exit 56 to the south side of the interstate. For now, the few businesses that line that side of the exit, rely on private wells and septic tanks. The lines will actually be placed under the interstate, and will require several spots of road construction, leaders say. Even though the distance is not that far, leaders hope the lines will bring in new business. City planners say the addition will cost more than $464,000 and will not rely on government stimulus or grant funds. Even though a bid has been accepted on the project, there is no estimated start date.
