Henry Police Chief in Crash

A well-known law enforcement leader from Henry County is in the hospital after morning crash where he suffered numerous injuries. The police chief for the City of Henry, Mark Herndon was first brought to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital by ambulance with a law enforcement escort around 11, Monday morning. Later, he was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. The chief suffered multiple injuries as his department’s SUV collided with a log truck in Paris. The wreck happened at the intersection of Highway 79 and Highway 218. “It gives your heart a warm feeling knowing that when a fellow law enforcement officer is in need, the agencies all the way from McKenzie P.D. to Milan P.D. to Carroll Co. Sheriff’s Office to Madison Co. Sheriff’s Office to Medina P.D. and every agency in between stops the traffic at the red light and allowing our marked units along with the ambulance through to expedite the situation and get him down here as quickly as we could,” said Sheriff Monte Belew of the Henry County Sheriff Department. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck. Troopers told ABC 7 Eyewitness News it is unclear what caused the crash, they are still waiting to talk with witnesses.
