Generals Fall in Home Opener

JACKSON, TENN. (April 13, 2011) – Four Jacksonville Suns‘ pitchers blank the Generals on Wednesday night, 2-0, in front of 3,008 fans at Pringles Park. The Generals put the lead-off hitter on in the first four innings, but were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The loss spoiled a great start by Generals‘ lefty Anthony Vasquez (0-2). Anthony tossed seven innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out two in the loss. Omar Poveda (1-0) earned the victory, firing six scoreless frames and surrendering just four hits. Poveda struck out two and walked none. Chris Hatcher, Garrett Parcell and Sandy Rosario (S, 2) dealt three scoreless frames to close out the win for Jacksonville. Kyle Seager went 3-for-4 for the Generals on Wednesday night. Jake Shaffer was 1-for-4, which extended his hitting streak to five games. Ryan Curry and Jake Smolinski had two-hit outings to lead the Suns. Jake Smolinski, Paul Gran and Luke Montz delivered two out hits in the top of the second inning against Vasquez. Montz‘ single scored Gran to give the Suns an early 1-0 lead. The Suns added to their lead in the top of the fifth, with a two out RBI single from Ryan Curry. The hit plated Chris Gutierrez. Thursday night is Thrifty Thursday at Pringles Park, with $1 priced hot dogs, popcorn, 12 oz draft beer and 24 oz soft drinks. It is also Jackson State Community College Night.
