Educator of the Week – Jennifer Horner
Whitehall Pre-K Center preschool teacher Jennifer Horner tells her students the story of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. Like a cocoon, she hopes her classroom is a place for her students to grow. “I hope to bring out that God-given gift that each of us has inside of us,” said Horner. “And just allow them to flourish within these classroom walls.” And even beyond those walls, Horner says parent involvement has made a complete picture for her students. “When you have the learning going on in the school, the learning continuing at home – these parents back up what I do in the classroom, they back up what their children do in the classroom,” said Horner. “So we share in their success.” It’s a success this educator says is just as rewarding for her children. “Whenever that light bulb moment happens for these children, it’s for one thing – they’re excited. It’s the ‘ta-da’ moment,” said Horner. “And when that happens there’s no words… there’s no words.” “When I look at them, I don’t see just a student,” said Horner. “I see somebody’s daughter, somebody’s son… somebody’s little baby. And they’re not babies – they’re somebody’s baby.” And somebody’s soon-to-be butterfly.
