Dixie Alley Storm Chase Team Severe Weather Conference
During the late afternoon and evening of February 5th, 2008… Jackson, TN and Union University were both severely damaged by two strong tornados. The resulting devastation was widespread with numerous injuries and sadly… Three people lost their lives. We beleive that educating the general public about severe weather, the causes, the effects and how to report this information to the National Weather Service ( NWS ) can help save lives. The Dixie Alley Storm Chase Team is an organized, all volunteer group of people dedicated to quickly reporting the location of a severe weather event to the NWS forecast office in Memphis, TN. The NWS can then quickly issue warnings and advisories that can help get people to safety.
