Police: Offender’s GPS links him to woman’s death
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities have arrested a convicted sex offender in the death of a McMinnville woman whose burned body was found near a cave last month after his monitoring device linked him to the crime.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51-year-old Jimmy Byron Jones of Morrison on Thursday and charged him with first degree murder in the death of 58-year-old Connie Lou Godsey Brown.
According to the TBI, investigators learned that Jones was at the crime scene through an electronically monitored GPS device he was wearing. The TBI said Jones admitted to killing Brown, although they did not know each other.
An autopsy revealed that Brown died from a gunshot wound to the chest and her body was found at the Summitville Cave in March.
