Funeral scheduled in Lebanon for airman

LEBANON, Tenn. (AP) – The family of a U.S. airman who died overseas in a training accident earlier this month is planning a funeral for him in Lebanon.

The military said 26-year-old 1st Lt. Joshua Hovies died on April 19 while swimming at an off-base pool in South Korea. He was assigned to the 8th Force Support Squadron.

His mother, Alicia Hovies, told WSMV-TV (http://bit.ly/13JkJbS ) that her son was training and was doing an underwater long-distance swim when he passed out while holding his breath.

His body was returned to the United States, and a funeral is scheduled for Saturday at the Wilson County Funeral Home.

His family said Hovies spent the first 13 years of his life in Thailand, where his parents worked as missionaries.
