New statewide drug court opens in Wartburg
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee mental health and prison officials are opening a statewide Recovery Court this week.
There’s a ribbon-cutting Tuesday in Wartburg where the court will be located. The aim is to move addicted inmates from prison into residential recovery. The center will have 100 beds and the intent of the project is to free inmates from addiction to reduce the rate of recidivism.
The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Tennessee Department of Correction are cooperating in the program. Officials said the cost of a person being in treatment will be about half that of being in prison.
It will be operated by the Davidson County Drug Court Support Foundation, which is a private foundation.
The program will be more intensive than other local drug courts.
