Gist Yet to Decide on Re-Election Bid, Conger Exploring Possibilities

JACKSON, Tenn.- With still more than a year and a half before the next mayoral race in Jackson, one city councilman has expressed interest if current Mayor Jerry Gist does not run again. Mayor Gist declined to comment on camera, Monday about the announcement by Councilman Scott Conger that he was forming an exploratory committee. But Gist said he was enjoying his job and a decision on seeking a third term will be made closer to the 2015 election. Councilman Conger did talk with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Monday about his decision to possibly seek a larger leadership role in the city. “Well, in politics I think there is always speculation and I really felt it was important to remove that speculation from myself so we could get out and back to people crafting a vision for the future of Jackson over the next 20 years,” said Scott Conger, city conucilman. Conger was elected to the city council in 2011. Te 2015 election for Jackson City Mayor is May 5, 2015. Candidates can start filing to run for the office on November 24 of next year.
