Mississippi Man Sentenced for Intentional HIV Exposure
MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for knowingly exposing another person to the human immunodeficiency virus – the maximum prison time under a 2004 state law.
The attorney general’s office says 37-year-old Laderrick Rencher of Meridian was sentenced Friday.
Rencher pleaded guilty May 20, and was released on bond to await sentencing.
A news release from Attorney General Jim Hood says Rencher was picked up May 21 on a strong armed robbery charge and remained in custody since.
Authorities say the exposure to HIV occurred Jan. 25, 2012, when the victim and Rencher were patients at Alliance Health Center in Meridian.
