Both Suspects Now in Custody for Convenience Store Robbery

The second suspect has been caught in connection with Sunday’s North Side Express armed robbery Wednesday. Jackson police have arrested and charged Jalen Hammond, 18, with aggravated robbery of North Side Express, located at 2652 North Highland Avenue. Schyler Kellogg, 27, was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated robbery and filing a false report. The pair was arraigned at 8 a.m. this morning at he Jackson City Court. Both men’s bonds were set at $100,000, and both continued to be held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of bond. At 9:43 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the robbery. Employees told officers that two men entered the store with handguns and demanded money. The suspects left the store after taking cash. A witness saw the robbers’ car leaving the scene and provided the license plate number to police. Investigators developed Kellogg as a suspect. Kellogg was questioned and initially reported that his car had been stolen before the robbery. Further investigation identified Kellogg as one of the robbers. Kellogg was arrested around noon Monday and transported to the Madison County Jail. Investigators determined Hammond was the person with Kellogg during the robbery. Kellogg and Hammond’s next court date is at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 in Jackson City Court. Police are not searching for anyone else in connection with this robbery.
